Feeding Evaluation

First things first!

BRODY ATE WITH A SPOON!

Now down to business...

We were referred to yet another specialist...That makes #7...but whose keeping count!
We will now be seeing a Ear Nose & Throat doctor (otolaryngologist.)

Brody will have these things thoroughly examined
1. lingual frenulum: his is very short he cannot get his tongue to the roof of his mouth, therefore he cannot create a good suction with the bottle. possible cutting later.

2. high palate: this we have known since birth but no one ever mentioned that it would cause so many problems with feeding.

3. nasal passage: just to check. now that i think, his nostrils are shaped differently. The right one is a bit smaller than the left. He may have difficultly getting air through there.

4. ears: to check for hearing. Brody passed his hearing test when he was born but she wants to make sure that his hearing is still good. The therapist said that his ears are very tiny and he does not always respond to the sound of a rattle of a bell. I'm almost 100% positive that his hearing is perfect.

We will also be discussing the difficultly with his bottle drinking skills. Although we have changed his formula now 3 times, she said there is a possibility of a soy allergy as well. The ENT will also later down the road do a food allergy test.

Oh and to add to our list of home stretches we now have to stretch the inside of his mouth. She said its very tight and would cause feeding problems too. We have to do this for a couple minutes before every time he eats. Also, I now need to start feeding him from a spoon once a day to help increase his oral motor skills. anddddddd.......we set more goals today!

*Goals for the next 6 months*
1. To calmly drink formula from bottle, eat rice cereal and 1st stage purees from spoon daily.
2. Began speaking more with vowel sounds
3. Sitting up on his own.

Unlike our other therapist we will only see her 2 a month! thank goodness!
